Here We Go Again.

So, lets try this again.  I have been missing in action now for a few months.  This is partly due to my unordinately busy life and mostly due to my raging facebook addiction. Nevertheless here I am again.  I finally have pictures to post of some of the products I have been working on and will be taking orders on anything anyone might be interested in.  I also have started yet another venture.  I will be teaching green crafting classes at the technical college (ACTC for you locals) here in town.  Therefore I am pulling the brake on this blog and taking it in a new direction.  More on that later.  For now check out the photos of my new projects!

1st graders

1st grade school teacher had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It's hard to believe these were actually done by first graders. Their insight may surprise you. While reading, keep in mind that these are first-graders, 6-year-olds, because the last one is a classic!

My new love.

So I have a new sewing love.......Aprons.   I mean whats not to love right?  You get to use some really beautiful fabric and embellishments, there are so many different patterns, and they are functional. (if you cook. I dont, but i like to microwave in an apron so I feel like I did!)  Plus, its a throwback to a time when our mothers and grandmothers were in the kitchen. and lets face it...thats where most of us learned to sew anyway so why not pay homage to our foremothers of sewing.
In celebration of my new crafting obsession i am including a link to a great giveaway for the book The Perfect Apron by  Rob Merrett.  You will find it below. This book includes some great ideas and full size patterns so no more running to the copy machine at the beginning of evey project.  yea!!
Happy sewing!

And we have a winner

I have decided on the Butterfly Garden stake crafted from a burnt paper grocery bag. I used the very sophisticated and technical procedure of the coin flip to decide between my top 2 choices and the butterfly came out on top. Hopefully I'll be back soon with pictures of my very successfull attempt at this project  http://www.favecrafts.com/Garden-and-Outdoor/Burnt-Bag-Butterfly-Plant-Stake

So many ideas so little time

Too many ideas. I guess this is better than no ideas. Although too many ideas is getting me the same result as having no ideas at all. Since I cant decide which project to work on next I sit staring at my work space all day trying to weigh the merits of a butterfly garden stake made from a burnt paper bag or a bowl made from magazine pages. I know both of these ideas sound like an arts and crafts project for the mentally insane but they are both actually very beautiful when finished. finished being the key word since to finish something you actually have to have started it in the first place. right? isnt that how it works because if anyone knows of another process I could try I'm open to suggestion.
anyway I've also come to the realization the my blog is pretty darn boring right now. I wouldnt even read it and its mine. Problem is I dont know what makes a good blog. so with that said I'm off to spy on other peoples blogs to get some ideas. Gee that's what I need more ideas!

Hope I'm better at business than I am at blogging!

Well this will be my first blog post and I dont really know what Im doing. I have never blogged before or even read a blog so just bear with me and hopefully I'll figure it out soon. I started this blog for my new business venture Artfully Altered. I have been sewing since I was a little girl in my Mamaw's sun room sitting in front of her old Singer machine. I still have that machine to this day and it still does all my best work. I find that for now my biggest challenge in starting this new business is having the time to actually create all these wonderful products that I'm promoting. My 4 year old daughter is not at all amused by the lack of attention she receives while I'm hunched over the sewing machine and buried up to my neck in fabric scraps. Neither is my husband! His sense of humor towards my 3am sewing sessions has long since been replaced by huffs and sighs as soon as I click on my machine. As for the machine itself, it receives a look of disdain from both husband and daughter every time they pass it by. I get the same look sometimes while I'm sewing away but it seems to hurt the machine's feelings more than mine. I can only hope that all my pin pricked fingers and sleepless nights spent sewing will begin to pay dividends soon or the machine and I could have a mutiny on our hands!
